Waterproof vs. Water Repellant
Thermal Control Products is often asked the difference between Water Proof and Water Repellant fabric and here it is:
Waterproof is the ability of the fabric to keep water from permeating through (the fabric). It is a nonporous fabric designed to keep you dry in the heaviest of rain. It is a durable coated fabric which is easy to clean and resistant to stains and mildew.
Water Repellent is the ability of the fabric to bead the water up and have it roll off thereby not allowing the water to saturate the fabric. It is tightly woven designed to shed water and not soak though in heavy rain. The fabric is treated to cause the water to “bead” on the surface instead of penetrate. It is a breathable fabric allowing moisture to escape to eliminate mold and condensation.
Please call Thermal Control Products to discuss your fabric requirements for your next project. We have several options ideal for water, UV and weather protection.
